ALTERNATIVE PRINCIPAL LICENSURE
The Mountain BOCES alternative program is a one-year principal preparation program of study and
training approved to offer the candidate an initial principal license.
Alternative Principal Licensure candidates must obtain an employment agreement with a Colorado public school as a principal in the endorsement area for which they are qualified. Alternatively licensed principals shall be evaluated under the same district and state requirements for licensed employees.

A Financial Hardship Waiver may be available for program participants who are experiencing unusual and unanticipated financial circumstances or serious unanticipated changes in their financial circumstances and are unable to meet the payment obligation.

Step-by-Step Guide to Obtaining a Principal Authorization
Before a candidate may apply for a principal authorization, the following three criteria must be met:
There is a demonstrated need for the principal or assistant principal position in the partnering Colorado school district or BOCES;
An employment agreement for the position exists; and
An individualized principal plan has been developed and vetted by CDE/Educator Development as meeting established indicators.
Become an Alternative Candidate Today
To be certain you are enrolled with Mountain BOCES alternative program (designated agency) you must email our Professional Learning department your Statement of Assurance (SOA). After you fill out the top section and your district fills out the middle section of the form, email it to PL@mtnboces.org sign off on the bottom of the form. Once completed, Professional Learning will send the SOA back to you to upload to your online application for your alternative license.
